5. Trial Classes
Tell me everything about taking a trial class.
- Every prospective student is welcome to a free trial class. If you are a current student of the school or a parent of a student currently enrolled, you are entitled to a free trial class as well if you are interested in another class (e.g. if your child is part of the Tiny Tigers and you are interested in the Parent & Child joint class, the two of you can take a trial class for that)
- The trial class is always free. There is no fee.
- Wear comfortable loose clothing (T-Shirt, athletic pants or shorts).
- No socks or shoes are required for karate classes.
- Before the class, you will be required to sign a release form.
- If you have any health concerns, conditions or injuries, you must let the instructors know.
- It is strongly recommended to remove any items (E.g. jewelry, watches, etc.) that could get damaged or accidentally injure yourself or a training partner.
- After the trial class, we will ask you for feedback. Let us know how it went and what your thoughts are. Ask questions, think about your goals and aspirations and how the class satisfies that. You can also register after the trial class.
How do I know if my child will be interested in Karate?
Very simple! Any prospective student can take a trial class, at no charge. From our online schedule, see which class time works best, let us know when to expect you and bring your child to that class. Your child should wear comfortable clothing that he can move around in and sweat in.
As a parent, can I be there for my child’s trial class?
Parents are welcome to observe their child and the class. However we request that parents do not intervene in the class (unless necessary) and allow their child to be fully immersed in the class. For the class, parents have to allow their children to be, and to participate in the manner that they are inclined to.
What should I expect for my child’s trial class?
The class comprises of a number of activities that build physical resilience and stamina, as well as being enjoyable and fun. Karate instruction takes place throughout the class and your child will begin learning the building blocks of karate. Your child will be joining other students in the class and will be an integral part of the class. No distinction is made by the instructor or other students. Your child will participate in everything.
I am interested in the Parent & Child joint karate class. Can I take a trial class for this?
Absolutely. Your child has to be within the ages of 3 and 7. From our online schedule, see which class time works best for you, let us know to expect you and your child. Please come with your child. Both of you should wear comfortable clothing to move around in and sweat in.
My child is shy. What if my child does not want to participate in the Parent & Child class?
That is not a problem. You are encouraged to participate in the class. Our experience has been that as the child acclimatizes to the new environment and sees you participating, your child will want to be part of the fun. That may be gradual for your child throughout the class, or he may suddenly jump full force into the class. Any way it works is perfect! Even if your child doesn’t participate for most of the class, that’s ok. They are nonetheless still absorbing what they see and hear.

For Tiny Tigers & Young Warriors - Do you allow make-ups?
Yes, students are allowed make-ups. Students have to do their best to be at the specific classes they are registered for. If you are unable to attend your class, you may do your make-up on a different day. It is important that you do your utmost to be in the class you signed up for. This is because we have a limit on the number of students per class and if a number of students keep missing classes and doing make-ups at different times, the class may be too big to accommodate you.
What if my child cannot make the days he signed up for?
Simply pick a different day and let us know. If there is still space for that class, you’ll be able to switch days.
For teens & adults – Do you have make-ups?
At the moment, there are only 2 classes open for teens & adults. If you are signed up for once a week, your make-up day would be the second class. If you are signed up for twice a week, you would not have a make-up day.
For the parent & child joint class – Do you have make-ups?
Yes - however you have to check in with us to let us know beforehand which make-up class you intend to come to. The parent & child must do their best to be at the specific class(es) that they signed up for. Because of a limit on the number of students per class, and if a number of students miss classes and do make-ups at different times, the class may be too big to accommodate you and your child.
If a session is missed this month, can it be made up next month?
Please plan ahead. There are no "monthly rollovers". Make up the sessions you missed or know you will miss, before the end of the month. Disclipline and organization are fundamental distinctions.
On what days is the school closed?
We are closed on federal holidays and popular holidays.
