Backyard SportsMake friends. Laugh lots. Have a blast. This class is designed to combine the elements of fitness, fun and teamwork among students. Students are taught in a safe and stimulating environment the importance of following directions for safety and efficiency and well as for solid team building and strategy. Students in backyard sports learn a variety of team-based strategy games and sports, classic games and creative variations of traditional children's games. Best of all, they maintain a healthy level of physical activity while simultaneously strengthening their social skills.
Broadway Bound Inspired by Broadway to make your own Famous Broadway plays, exotic worlds, stunning songs, and admirable choreography. That is what we shall be channeling in this class. We will take a song from the Broadway canon, learn its learn lyrics and choreography, while have a good deal of fun!
ChessCreativity through logic, Logic through creativity! Chess is a game that is easy to learn, but takes a lifetime to master! We'll be using a specially developed curriculum for teaching young Chessplayers—whether they are starting out as beginners, or are already at an intermediate level. There is no “one size fits all” way to learn chess, and a student will progress at his or her own pace, so our aim to always provide individual and small group instruction, as well as more generalized lessons to the class as a whole. The best way to learn is by doing, and during a class session there is time set aside for structured activities, including specially selected chess puzzles, and various exercises designed to clearly illustrate concepts. Of course, there is also time for “Free Play”, as well.
Circus Tricks Have you ever thought of joining the circus? In this beginner’s circus tricks class, you’ll have a chance to try your hand (and legs & arms & torso) at some of the basics: somersaults, head-and hand-stands, cartwheels, back bends, and maybe even some walkovers and handsprings for those with prior experience; and learn to spin plates, juggle scarves and balls. All children will be introduced to foundational skills in acrobatics and tricks.
Dance Me A StoryTell a story and feel its beat Children will have a blast. This class is designed to tell a story through dance, with mainly the creative input of our little campers. Everyone gets to add to the story and then design the way their body moves to the words.
Drama Your own original play from scratch Children will brainstorm, write, and create their own original play to be presented. This will be done through various acting exercises and scene study. Self expression and fun are crucial ingredients!
ImagineArts Your imagination is not ever the limit! This is a visual arts class with an emphasis on creativity, invention and fun! Each class will be themed and will have an intricate guided activity. Children will be allowed to express and create, with guidance and encouragement. There are no mistakes in art, just self-expression.
Improv Comedy The best ideas you never knew you had This class is designed to teach students to think on their feet and develop stage presence as well as creativity through theater games. Students learn how to invent a story line and keep it cohesive while allowing other students to add their input and creativity to it as well. This class teaches students how to work together, trust in each other in order to create something new together and respect each others' ideas and opinions. In addition, students learn to express themselves creatively and confidently in front of an audience.
KarateStrong Body - Strong Mind - Strong Spririt A martial art, emphasizing discipline, strength, conditioning, as well as supplemental aspects of active listening, focus and paying attention. Our karate classes are renowned for their effectiveness and for having wonderful instructors who relate with each child, no matter their age.
Mindfulness Games Big conversations for young minds. Our mindfulness projects expressed through art. They teach children important life skills while being fun. The first day we will focus on our awareness of ourselves and the second day will focus on goals and intentions and those who support us in achieving our goals.
Myths & Legends Imagine magical universes The magic of storytelling comes alive in this class as children enter the worlds of myths and legends and come face to face with new strange creatures, meet brave heroes and heroines and last but certainly not least, save humankind.
Sing-a-long Around the World Ode to the world, here we come Songs and games connect all of us, no matter their language or geography. In this class, we will learn new songs and stories that go with them, as well as fun games, from all around the world. We will also learn some of the cultures behind each one, from Mexico to Ghana. By the end, we will have a whole new set of fun, nurturing songs and games to share.
Sizzling CircuitsA hands-on intro to electronics! Armed with their own circuitboard, each child will build exciting electronic projects with sensorial rewards: circuits that light up, run a fan, set off an alarm, power a motor, activate speakers. For the child who is ever curious about how things work and oh boy, when they find out that their little creations are like the ones inside your TV, alarm clock or other devices, what a delight! Circuitboards are powered with batteries, and are safe for children. No heavy machinery required; pieces are easily tacked onto each other.
Tai ChiWe are Earth, Sky, water! In this class children will experience the basics of Qi Gung / Tai Chi through simple exercises that utilize sensory experience and imagination to get their bodies focused and alive. Natural imagery will allow us to relax, to feel stronger, and to focus. A great companion practice to children who are also learning Karate.
Yoga & Meditation The Courageous and The Confident Children will be guided and will learn yoga poses/movement for around forty minutes of each class. The last fifteen minutes will be guided meditations, adapted to young minds. On the first day, the focus for yoga will be on courage and confidence and the second day will focus on support system (with group and partner poses).
