Indulge in a whole lot of right-brain activities at MKD's Spring break camp to balance out your left-brain school year!
Our camp values ... Caring for oneself and for others - Imagination - Passion - Enrichment - Respect - Discipline - Creativity - Self Expression - Fun!
How does the day go? Camp takes place at our karate school, from 9am-5pm. There are nearly 7 hours of individual classesscheduled daily : Daily karate class and a variety interactive activities.
Drop-off is from 8.45-9am, and then the fun starts right away at 9am with a body-in-motion-don't-sit-down class, interactive activity #1.
After that, we take a 25 min snack, long enough for a good break to fuel our moving bodies. We resume with interactive activities #2 and #3.
Interactive activity #2 while supremely engaging is less physical so that our bodies can digest our snack and by the next activity #3, we'll be hopping and dancing until it's lunchtime!
After a 45 min lunch break, we ease into the afternoon withinteractive activities #4, a longer focus activity of 1.5h that will allow young brains to relax, enjoy and express themselves.
An afternoon snack break of 20 mins in between those ensures we maintain a healthy energy level and focus for thelast two classes of the day - interactive activity #6 and karate building blocks of flexibility and kata.
What is an Interactive Activity? Our Interactive Activities are unique in that firstly, we have a high instructor to student ratio, of one instructor per five children on average. Secondly, the activities are hands-on and invite the child to be a creative participant, not a bored spectator! Each activity has its degree of participation, initiative and creativity.
The instructor and child are in constant dialogue. Can you imagine how much your child will love being spoken with (instead of talked at!) while experiencing new things?
In our karate class, we especially cultivate discipline, attention, focus and listening.
Our Interactive Activities cover the 5 categories:
MOVING BODY - Karate, Kata, Flex & Stretch, Team Games
THINKING MIND - Chess, Electronic Circuits, Science Explorers
IMAGINATIVE MIND - ImagineArts, Myths & Legends
EXPRESSING SELF - Improv Comedy, Theater, Dance, Hip Hop
NURTURING SPIRIT - Review & Celebrate
What should I pack for my child? - 2 snacks (morning and afternoon) e.g. fruits, pretzels, snack bars - Healthy hearty lunch (please be sure to pack enough! We have an active camp!) - Plenty of Water / Juice - Change of clothes (must be labeled and bagged.
